WeatherTech FloorLiner Detailing 101
Your front floor mats see the most foot traffic of your entire vehicle — which means they’re bound to be the dirtiest part. Periodically giving them a thorough clean can improve the overall look and feel of your interior and help your mats stay cleaner for longer. With this in mind, we created the perfect deep-cleaning duo that’s formulated specifically for WeatherTech mats: the TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner/Protector Kit. Follow along for the tools needed and steps to take to get the best clean possible.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
- Car Vacuum
- TechCare FloorLiner & FloorMat Cleaner/Protector Kit
- Medium Bristle Brush
- Microfiber Towel
- Damp Sponge
Step 2: Clean
Remove the mats from your car and be careful not to let any messes fall out onto the carpet — if there is a lot of loose debris, vacuuming before removal can help. Hold the mat at an angle and rinse the dirt off while wetting the entire top surface. Using the TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner, evenly apply about 8-10 sprays making sure to cover the mat completely.
With a medium bristle brush, work in the cleaner to lift dirt and residue. Avoid using metal brushes as those could scratch your mats. Finer bristles help agitate and remove debris from the small contours and textured surface of the mat.
Hold the mat at an angle again to rinse all of the soap away. Place the mat upside down in a dry area to allow excess water to run off as you scrub and rinse any additional mats.
Step 3: Dry
If not air dried, use a microfiber towel to dry the top and bottom of the mat. Let the mat sit face up to dry completely. Make sure the mat has dried completely before moving on to the next steps, or the effectiveness of your protective coating could be compromised.
Step 4: Protect
Using the WeatherTech FloorLiner and Floor Mat Protector, evenly spray 5-6 sprays of the protectant on the top of the mat. Use a damp sponge to work the product onto the mat. Avoid applying excess to prevent spots and extend drying time but be sure the protectant evenly spreads over the entire top surface of the mat.
Before reinstalling, vacuum the carpet in your vehicle’s footwell and check the back of the mat for any dirt that may have come up off your driveway. Once the mats have dried fully, you can place them back in and enjoy the new, clean feel to your interior!
