WeatherTech Hitch Basket Buying Guide

WeatherTech Hitch Basket installed on vehicle hauling bags of mulch

Have you ever been working on a home improvement project only to discover the supplies you brought home from the store have left a mess all over your cargo area or the equipment you need won’t fit inside your vehicle? Sure, you can rent a truck to transport what you need, but you’ll be spending more money on your project with the cost of the rental. Plus, you’d have to drive it back to the store and take valuable time away from your project. We have a convenient solution for that and it’s made right here in America.

Why You Need a WeatherTech Hitch Basket

You’ve probably seen other cars on the road with rusty metal cargo carriers mounted to their hitch and bouncing around with every bump in the road. There has to be a better solution, right? You want something sturdy, well-made, that won’t rust, and is strong and stable enough to handle heavy loads without wobbling precariously on rough roads.

Hitch Basket is a thoughtfully designed, receiver-mounted cargo carrier that’s the perfect workhorse for hauling all sorts of gear and supplies. With a carrying capacity of up to 500 lbs., it can easily hold heavy and messy items, such as bags of sand to fill the kids’ sandbox, wet snowblowers, grass-covered lawnmowers, sacks of water softener salt, rock salt for winter and so much more.

Plus, with it being mounted to the rear of your vehicle, it’s the ideal place to haul anything that will leave an unpleasant odor inside your car. For your next fishing trip, put the rods in the cargo area and put the bait cooler on the Hitch Basket. For your landscaping needs, you’ll want to put those stinky bags of mulch and compost back there too.

In addition to its generous carry capacity, it’s also made from long-lasting materials, offers convenient loading and simple, one-person installation. Let’s explore some of its features and benefits.

Product Information

  • Materials

Hitch Basket is made from impact-resistant plastic with a solid, U.S.-sourced aluminum frame for enhanced strength. It’s intentionally designed to hold an incredible amount of weight while also being light enough to lift and store on a garage wall. Unlike similar carriers made of metal, it won’t rust, corrode or chip, so you won’t have to apply rust remover and touch-up paint to maintain it. It also features drainage channels to carry rain off the back of the basket, keeping cargo from sitting in pooling water.
  • Easy Loading

Because this carrier is mounted to the vehicle’s hitch, it’s low to the ground for easy loading, which is convenient for heavier or bulky items that are hard to lift into the trunk. The open design allows you to attach tie-down straps to secure your cargo before driving.
  • Installation

Hitch Basket arrives with most of the heavy work already done for you. With an easy two-piece assembly, you only need to bolt the basket to the aluminum frame with the provided hardware and Allen key. It fits into a standard 2" receiver hitch and is secured with a bolt rather than a hitch pin, which provides extra stability and reduced rattling. This heavy-duty performer weighs just 27 lbs., making one-person installation effortless.
